The Left attacked the BJP for fielding Malegaon-blast accused Pragya Thakur as its candidate from Bhopal.

“She was in prison. She is facing charges of terrorism. The BJP identifies with all such people. The party attacked the Opposition for using the term ‘Hindu terror.’ Whether it is Hindu terror or some other terror, people were killed. Who was behind those attacks? It has to be found out. All accused in mass murders of Dalits are also getting acquitted. Who is helping them?” asked CPI leader D Raja.

He said the Representation of People’s Act should be amended to prevent those who are facing such serious charges from contesting the polls.

Raja added that the BJP is using sensitive issues such as the Ayodhya dispute and the Sabarimala issue to create divisions among people. “The Prime Minister and the present ruling dispensation resort to abuse of all sorts against the Opposition while responding to issues raised by us.,” Raja added.

He said such “gimmicks” will not help the BJP to polarise the electorate. “This election is fought on real issues.

Thakur is pitted against Congress’s Digvijaya Singh from Bhopal.
