Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been given a clean chit by the Election Commission for a speech he delivered on April 6 in Nanded, Maharashtra.

“The matter has been examined in accordance with the extant advisories, provisions of the Model Code of Conduct and after examination of complete transcript of speech of eight pages as per the certified copy sent by the Returning Officer, 16 Nanded Parliamentary constituency. The commission is of the considered view that in this matter, no such violation of the extant advisories/provisions is attracted,” it said in its order.

The PM had attacked various political, including the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Pary and parties in Jammu and Kashmir for their vision of India.

This is the third time that the Commission has found the Prime Minister not guilty of violating the Model Code of Conduct. The clean chit comes ahead of the elections to the Varanasi Parliamentary constituency from which the Prime Minister is contesting. The city goes to polls on May 19 — the seventh and final phase of the 2019 general election.

Meanwhile, the Commission has Congress President till May 7 to reply to a show cause notice issued in light of his ‘impugned statement’ made while addressing an election meeting on April 23 in Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi had sought an extension till May 7 to reply. The extension was granted.
