Listing out the “pro-people” measures of the Centre, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh claimed here on Tuesday that the BJP will come back to power by improving its 2014 tally.

Ridiculing the Opposition, the senior BJP leader said they could not name a leader for the top post.

When asked about his assessment after six phases of polls, Singh said the NDA may get two-third majority. “I have reached a conclusion that the BJP will win more seats in Lok Sabha polls than it did in 2014. Two-thirds majority for the NDA also cannot be ruled out. The hope people had from the Prime Minister in the 2014 elections has turned into confidence this time,” Singh said addressing reporters at the BJP’s headquarters on Tuesday.

‘Modi vs who?’

He said the Opposition is keeping people in dark over the question of leadership. “Last time, it was (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi versus Sonia Gandhi/Manmohan Singh. This time it is Modi versus who? The Opposition should not keep people in dark, should reveal its PM candidate,” he added.

Commenting on a possible meeting of all Opposition parties, he said the confusion in the Opposition camp over leadership is because they are not going to get majority. He claimed the Grand Alliance in Uttar Pradesh between the SP and the BSP also failed to make a mark and the BJP has set a target of winning 74 seats.

He said the last five years under Modi saw “remarkable” measures to lift people out of poverty. The Home Minister said inflation was controlled and existing welfare schemes were implemented effectively and new schemes were started for the benefit of the poor.

Rajnath said by using the UPA’s housing scheme, the Modi government constructed 1.30 crore houses, while the UPA could built just 25 lakh homes.

“Over 13 crore LPG connections were given in the last five years compared to 12 crore distributed during the tenure of all previous governments till 2014,” Singh claimed. He said the rate of highway construction in India is the highest in the world.

On national security

All parameters of internal security, the Home Minister said, were better than the UPA government. Accusing the Congress of weakening the fight against terrorism by coining the term “Hindu terrorism”, he said terrorism has no religion.

He also claimed the number of security personnel died was less under the NDA regime when compared with the UPA regime.

He questioned the Time Magazines’s article that termed Modi as ‘Divider-in-Chief’. “How can they call him so? He tried to take all sections of people along with him,” Singh said.

He accused the Congress of creating insecurity among minorities and said the BJP tried to instil confidence among them.
