India’s first semi-high speed train the Vande Bharat Express will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and members of the Railway Board will be on board the train on its inaugural journey. The train will travel from Delhi to Varanasi in nine hours and forty-five minutes. This includes stoppage time of 40 minutes each at Kanpur and Allahabad where there will be special programmes.

Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet top US officials in Beijing on Friday, as the world’s two biggest economies rush to patch up their trade differences before a looming deadline. Xi will meet US Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, who are in the capital for crunch talks towards a trade deal.

The national selection committee on February 15, is set to pick India squad for the five-match ODI series against Australia. Zeroing in on players for a couple of available World Cup spots, including a toss-up between left-arm pacers Jaydev Unadkat and Khaleel Ahmed, will be the selection committee’s primary focus. India will play two T20 Internationals and five ODIs, starting February 24, which will be their last international assignment before the World Cup, which begins in England on May 30.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign in Madhya Pradesh from Hoshangabad district on Friday. He will address a public meeting at Itarsi in Hoshangabad district in the afternoon.

The Board of Trade (BoT) will seek views of stakeholders including various government departments, exporters and industry members on February 15 to frame a new foreign trade policy and boost shipments of goods and services. The 70-member board, a top advisory body on external trade, is chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu. The Board’s last meeting was held in June 2017
