Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has called for a meeting of leaders of all political parties on January 28, a day before the Budget Session of Parliament gets underway with the Presidential address on January 29. A similar meeting is also likely to be called by the government, which would be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Leaders of parties are expected to flag the issues that they want to raise in both Houses during the session.

IPL auction 2018 is set to take place in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. About 578 players have been finalised by the IPL Governing Council that will go under the hammer. About 360 Indian players, including the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik, will be available for the franchises. Among the foreign players, England’s Ben Stokes and New Zealand’s Colin Munro will be the major attractions but names like Glenn Maxwell, Joe Root, Hashim Amla, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard can also start a bidding war.

Criticising the Tamil Nadu Government's announcement of bus fare hike and calling it an "anti-people'' policy, political parties in the State have announced a state-wide demonstration on January 27 demanding that the Palaniswami-led government roll back the hike. Extending solidarity to the DMK party's state-wide demonstration at the district headquarters in this regard, the leaders of CPI, MDMK and Congress have asked their members to participate in large numbers in the agitation in their respective districts. They would urge the government to revoke its decision.

Hyderabad-headquartered MSME world will organise a two-day "All India MSME World Expo 2018" at NSIC (National Small Industries Corporation) Ltd from January 27. The MSME World have branches across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra and the mega event is being conducted for the first time. The idea behind MSME World, which has 300 plus members in Hyderabad, is to empower MSMEs in terms of developing their business plans, helping them in raising funds, assist them in identifying the right technology, help them in tie-ups assist in marketing branding and digitalising their business. Besides B2B meetings, five parallel meetings will be held at the two-day fair.
