Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement today to mark the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150 birth anniversary. In a tweet, Modi said that the movement also marks the completion of four years of Swacch Bharat Mission. PM will interact with the volunteers of the Clean India Mission. Swacch Bharat aims at the ending Open Defecation in the country by October 2, 2019.

NASA is all set to launch Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite today. Also called the ICESat-2, the mission aims to track the Earth’s melting poles and disappearing sea ice using NASA’s most advanced laser instrument. It will also measure the ice sheets and sea ice across the globe. ICESat-2 will monitor the impact of warming climate on the planet’s coldest places.

BJP president Amit Shah will kick-start election campaign for Telangana State Assembly with a public rally address from Mehabubnagar. Later in the day, he will meet the office bearers of the State BJP unit and chalk out strategy for the polls. He is likely to announce the first list of candidates on Sunday. Elections were necessitated in the State after the K Chandrasekhar Rao government dissolved the Legislative assembly and sought early elections. The State Elections will be held in early November.

ISRO will be launching PSLV rocket with two foreign satellites – NovaSAR and S1-4 on Sunday. This commercial launch, by the ISRO for the UK, is for observation of Earth including forest mapping, flood and disaster monitoring and ice cover and land use. The UK will also be using the observations for urban management.

India and the US will carry out joint military exercise from today. The military training exercise will be carried out at the foothills of the Himalayas in Chaubattia and conclude on September 29. Called the Yudh Abhyas, this will be the 14 edition and one of the longest running joint military exercises aiming at counter insurgency and counter terrorism in mountainous terrain.
