The Central Statistics Office will release the estimates for GDP growth for July-September on Friday. A majority of analysts are expecting a slip from the surprisingly high growth figure of 8.2 per cent achieved in the first quarter.  The country’s GDP growth is expected to decelerate to 7.6 per cent in the September quarter, due to the slowdown in industrial activity. 

World leaders  gather in Buenos Aires for the 13th G-20 summit.  US President Donald Trump will hold a trilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi and Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the summit.  Modi is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, German Chancellor Angela Merkel among others. The G-20 leaders will discuss reforms in multilateral trading system, including the WTO. The theme of the G20 Summit, held amid the ongoing trade war between the US and China, is ‘Building Consensus for Fair and Sustainable Development’. 

Hearing in the free PDS rice to ration card holders in Tamil Nadu will continue in the Madras High Court. Last week, hearing a Habeas corpus petition, the court had observed that free PDS rice should be restricted to families below the poverty line. It directed the Advocate General to find out from the government as to whether the public distribution scheme could be amended to cover only those in BPL category.

Defending champions Australia begin their campaign against minnows Ireland in the hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar on Friday. The world number one Kookaburras would start as overwhelming favourites against 10th ranked Ireland in the Pool B match. Australia have won the World Cup thrice -- 1986, 2010 and 2014. In other Pool B match on Friday, England will play China. 

Maharashtra Assembly will get deputy Speaker after about four years, with today's election to the constitutional post. Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Auti, Congress’ Harshvardhan Sapkal and independent MLA Bachhu Kadu are contesting the election.  The Sena with its 63 MLAs and ally BJP’s 122 MLAs is in a comfortable position to win the election in the 288-member lower house.
