Five things to watch out for today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to lay the foundation stone of the ambitious Delhi-Meerut Expressway project, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the national Capital today. This follows three important highway projects worth ₹10,166 crore launched last month to decongest Delhi. The project is proposed under four packages.

In Delhi, the discounted LED bulb scheme for consumers ends today. More than 10.9 lakh households have made their homes energy efficient by adopting LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme, which began on June 1. Over 43 lakh LEDs have been distributed over the past six months.

Today is the last day for all cable TV subscribers under phase III of the digitisation drive to get Set Top Boxes to avail of uninterrupted TV services. Phase III of the TRAI’s digitisation drive covers municipal corporations and municipalities. Phase I of the drive covered the metros and Phase II 38 cities.

A coordination trial for Delhi’s odd-even traffic rules will be conducted on Thursday for two hours from 9 am to 11 am wherein it will be decided where the civil defence, traffic police teams and SDM teams will be deployed.

The key decision-making bodies of the AIADMK, the general council and executive, will meet in Chennai on Thursday. The meeting will be presided over by the party's Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan, and comes months ahead of the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
