The Centre will hold an all-party meeting today, on the eve of the start of the Winter Session of Parliament where issues such as demonetisation and surgical strike will come up for discussion. The Winter Session has been advanced to November 16 this time, for early passage of the Central GST and Integrated GST legislations.

The Supreme Court may hear today a petition challenging the government decision to demonetise the ₹1,000 and ₹500 currency notes. The Centre has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court that it be heard if the court entertains any petition on demonetisation of ₹1,000 and ₹500 notes.

Today is the last day for jewellers to deposit old highvalue currency notes as the Government cracks down on gold traders to prevent the laundering of black money. The gold and jewellery route has been followed by persons with black money to convert their ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes at a haircut of 20-40 per cent.
