A special session of the Kerala Assembly is to be held on Thursday to discuss the implications of the notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change that bans sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets. Earlier, the Cabinet decided to explore various possibilities to counter Centre’s move, including convening of a special session of the House. The state government is also planning to approach the courts and explore the possibility of holding a meeting of Chief Ministers to discuss the implications of the MoEF notification.

Ahead of the kharif season, State Bank of India is to meet nearly 10,000 farmers on Thursday to understand their credit needs and provide finance. The meeting will be organised at the bank’s 15,500 rural and semi-urban branches across the country. During the meetings, branches will receive applications for fresh loans as well as for renewal or enhancement of existing loans, the bank said in a statement.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is to lay the foundation stone for the work on the coffer dam of the Polavaram project on Thursday. He has expressed confidence that it will be completed in a year's time.
