India’s largest e-commerce marketplace Flipkart will square-off with Amazon for the year’s biggest annual festival sale starting October 10.

While Flipkart’s ‘The Big Billion Days’ will run for five days — October 10 to 14 — Amazon has extended its ‘Great Indian Festival’ sale to six days — October 10 to 15 — , with early access for Prime members.

Amazon is pitching 170 million products, and has even set up an ‘Amazon Festive Home’ in Delhi with over 1,600 products, giving customers a glimpse into what is on offer. Flipkart’s message this year is “Ab India Hoga Budget Se Mukt,’ through multiple payment solutions. Apart from No-Cost EMIs, the e-tailer has introduced Flipkart Cardless Credit that gives customers a credit line of up to ₹60,000 payable in instalments.

Surging shipments

“We are much better prepared this year with many more Fulfilment Centres and the launch of the Hindi interface for our website,” Manish Tiwary, Vice-President – Category Management, Amazon India, told BusinessLine . Amazon will follow up this sale with another one to cash in on shopping for Dhanteras, which falls two days ahead of Diwali.

The festival season sale is estimated to notch up $2.5-3 billion, up from $1.5 billion last season, estimates RedSeer Consulting. Over 20 million customers are expected to shop this time around, up from 13-14 million last season. Shipments are seen surging to 48 million from 28 million last season.
