“When mediocrity becomes accepted, good becomes rare and excellence become idiosyncrasy of very few individuals,” said Suresh Krishna, Chairman, Sundram Fasteners Ltd here on Thursday.

Addressing the 18th TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) National Conference organised by Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), Krishna said that excellence is not an end but a continuous journey of discovering new way of doing things.

Urging individuals to seek excellence in whatever they do, Krishna said, “Excellence should be a passion, a truly held belief like a religion and it should be worshipped.” He lauded Indian companies for being the highest award winners outside of Japan by bagging 42 per cent of the TPM awards given by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance(JIPM) so far.

Citing Sundram Fasteners as an example, Krishna said, we started our company with eight employees and today it has about eight thousand.

As a development institution focussed on India’s growth and with special focus on India-at-75, which it will be 2022, CII’s theme for the current year is RISE - Responsible, Inclusive, Sustainable and Entrepreneurial with emphasis on industries’ role in partnering with government to accelerate growth and development, N Kumar, Vice-Chairman, Sanmar group, said.

Kumar said that so far 266 Indian companies have won out of the 367 TPM awards.

Yogesh Munjal, MD, Munjal Showa Ltd, said although Indian companies bagged so many TPM awards, it pales in comparison to the number of industries India has. Munjal urged CII to bring more companies into CII’s TPM benchmarking fold. N Kumar, past president -CII felicitated past presidents of CII's TPM Club India - Suresh Krishna, V Narasimhan and Yogesh Munjal.
