The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which had recently asked state Food Commissioners to pull up those packaged drinking water companies that were operating without its licence, on Tuesday gave a clean chit to Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Bisleri.

It said that these companies were operating under valid FSSAI licence and BIS certification.

However, it said that it will continue taking appropriate action on other packaged drinking water companies that are operating without valid licence.

In a release, the regulator said that it had held a meeting with the representatives of Coca-Cola India, PepsiCo India, and Bisleri and the officers of Bureau of Indian Standards on this issue.

These companies had said that their packaged drinking water units were already licensed by FSSAI and are also BIS certified. The regulator had then directed these companies to submit details of their various manufacturing units, including third party manufacturer and processors.

“The details forwarded by these Food Business Operators were verified by FSSAI and it was found that these FBOs have valid FSSAI/BIS licence and certification. It can be safely concluded that the said FBOs comply with relevant provisions of FSS Act, Rules and Regulations,” an official statement said.

It added that the FSSAI will take appropriate action to ensurequality and safety of packaged drinking water.
