The first set of compensation for laying GAIL gas pipeline project in Kerala has been handed over to landowners of Poyya village in Thrissur.
The Deputy Collector and Competent Authority handed over the first cheque for Rs 3,77,520 to Benny Alex, a resident of Poyya.
GAIL is laying gas pipeline from Kochi to Kootanad and from there to Bangalore and Mangalore. The pipeline passes through Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
About 500 km of the pipeline alignment is in Kerala running through the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur.
The land and crop compensation is passed by the Competent Authority (CA), who works on deputation from the State Government for the project. He collects the rates of the crops, their yields and other data from the authorised government departments and arrives at the net worth of the crop.
