One of India’s high security websites hosted by National Informatics Centre of The Bureau of Energy Efficiency web site has been hacked by an organisation claiming to be the Yemeni Electronic Army.
As an agency focusing on energy efficiency, and part of the Union Power Ministry, BEE plays a role in facilitating the energy efficiency drives guiding Central and State Government entities, companies and consumers.
When BusinessLine tried to access the company site earlier on Wednesday, while the main page opens normally, the moment one enters segments such as Appliances, it throws up the message Hacked by Yemeni Electronic Army with an eagle symbol. Thereafter, nothing opens up. In the backdrop, background music is on.
On the site, hackers have posted, “This site is stamped by YEA. Security is just an illusion. We are from Yemen.”
The YEA also maintained two contact IDs yeahacker.blogspot.com and www.fb.com/yeahacker.
This only shows the vulnerability of well managed Government sites. In the past too, several central Government managed sites were hacked,
When contacted, an official in the BEE stated the matter has been taken up with the National Informatics Centre, the manager of the site.
