Karnataka’s new Sports Policy is aimed at compensating students with adequate attendance and grace marks for their sports-related activities, according to Pramod Madhwaraj, Karnataka Minister for Sports and Youth Services.
Inaugurating the new indoor stadium of the Fr Muller Charitable Institutions in Mangaluru on Tuesday, he said Karnataka did not have a sports policy till now.
Attendance issues
The students who take part in sports face the problems of attendance and other related issues, he said. Considering this, the new sports policy provides attendance exemption for the period of training and participation in sports events.
The policy also has provision for grace marks based on the level of achievement of sportspersons from primary to the university level, he said.
All these years, only sportspersons and teams were being honoured for their contributions to the field. He said the government’s new award would honour institutions for their contributions towards promoting sports-related activities in their institutions.
PT Usha, former international athlete, inaugurated the new gymnasium, on the occasion.
