The government on Tuesday tabled three Ordinances in Parliament.
An Ordinance under which old ₹500/1,000 will cease to be liabilities of the Reserve Bank of India from December 31, 2016, was tabled in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha by Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and S. S. Ahulwalia, respectively.
The other Ordinance pertained to enabling companies to pay wages to workers earning up to ₹18,000/month via electronic mode or banking, promulgated by the President on December 28, 2016.
The third - The Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) 2016 – was promulgated by the President on December 22, 2016.
An Ordinance remains valid for six months, during which period the government needs to get it passed in Parliament.
