Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) hopes to achieve better than industry growth during this fiscal, helped mainly by the launch of its new Amaze and other two new high-end models – Honda CR-V and Honda Civic, which will hit the market during H2 of 2018.

“We will grow higher than the industry this year. Probably, we will achieve double-digit growth. Amaze will help us garner significant share in the sub-4-metre compact sedan segment,” Makota Hyoda, Director – Sales and Marketing, said here.

The sub-4-m sedan market volume is estimated at 35,000 units per month and is dominated mainly by Maruti Dzire, which sells 21,000-22,000 units a month. Hyundai Xcent’s sales are about 3,500 units. Tata Tigor is selling more than 2,300 units a month. Ford Aspire sells about 1,800 units, according to industry estimates.

The previous Amaze’s monthly volume fell to about 2,000 units and below during FY18 after maintaining a strong monthly volume level of more than 5,000 units in the preceding years.

Honda expects the new Amaze, which comes at a starting price of ₹5.6 lakh for petrol and ₹6.7 lakh for diesel, to be a volume driver for the company this year along with other models such as City and WR-V.

With lower maintenance cost promise, attractive warranty offers and aggressive pricing, the company expects Amaze’s monthly volumes to grow significantly in the coming months.

“With right value proposition, the new Amaze could attract customers from other segments too. We expect a good number of first time buyers also to consider the new,” Amaze.
