The National Human Rights Commission (law division) has sought a detailed report from East Singhbhum SSP on the December 24 firing by security guards at the Tata Steel Works within four weeks.

Jharkhand Human Rights Conference President Manoj Mishra, who is the complainant, told reporters here on Wednesday that he had received a copy of the directive.

Mishra said he had demanded stringent action against the security personnel responsible for the firing and Rs 10 lakh compensation to each injured person besides a job in the company in his complaint sent on January 4.

The security guards, in accordance with a new company circular, had asked the labourers on December 24 to board company buses instead of riding bicycles to the site, which the labourers resisted.

In the firing and clash that followed, nine persons including a photo journalist Madan Kumar Sahu were injured. Three security guards were also injured in stone pelting by labourers.

S.P. Singh, a security guard of the company, who was among the injured, has been arrested.
