Hyatt Hotels Corporation introduced its seventh brand, Centric, to India in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

An entry-level, affordable lifestyle brand, the Centric is targeted at ‘millennial-minded’ travellers who want to be in the centre of all the action. The company’s sole hotel in the city, the Hyatt Bangalore, was re-branded Hyatt Centric.

“We started off in India 35 years ago with Hyatt Regency in Delhi and have since introduced six more brands including Park, Grand, Place, Hyatt, Andaz and now Centric. India, which is our third largest market after the US and China, has the potential to host all of our brands in the next 10 years,” said Peter Fulton, Group President for Europe, Africa, Middle East and South West Asia, Hyatt Hotels Corporation.

Pointing out that Hyatt is the smallest large hotel company in the world with 750 operating hotels in over 50 countries, Fulton said, 60 new hotels will be opened around the world this year. In India, Hyatt operates 29 hotels in 18 cities with over 7,000 rooms. Of these, the company owns 50 per cent equity in three – Grand Hyatt Mumbai, Andaz Delhi and Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad.

Asked about India expansion, Fulton said: “We have 23 hotels in the pipeline that will add 6,900 rooms in 17 new destinations over the next six years. By the year-end, we will open Hyatt Place in Bengaluru and Hyatt Regency in McLeodganj. Goa is our strongest market followed by Mumbai.” The company will hire 11,000 associates to support its expansion plans over the next six years.
