The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sent notices to nearly 121 private TV channels to share technical parameters required by the Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) to monitor their content.

EMMC monitors all TV channels in the country and reports programming and advertising code violations.

In its order, the Ministry stated, “ It has been informed by Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC) that content acquisition of 121 permitted private satellite TV channels..is not being made possible in EMMC since their technical parameters are not available with EMMC.” The 121 channels include news and non-news channels and are run by leading broadcasting companies, besides regional channels. Some of the channels that have been sent notices include Star Gold South East Asia, MAA Movies HD, Comedy Cental, VH1, Colors Tamil, Zee Classic HD, Zindagi, Living Travelz, Sony Pix 2 HD, SAB Tamil, SAB Punjabi and History TV 18 Tamil.

The Ministry has asked the errant broadcasters to submit the required technical parameters to EMMC by May 30. As per Uplinking guidelines all companies and channels need to submit information to EMMC required for monitoring of programmes or content.

“Accordingly, all the concerned broadcaster companies are required to provide complete set of monitoring facilities/technical parameters, that is, professional IRD, Cam Module etc in respect of their permitted TV channels to EMMC for monitoring purpose by May 30 positively, failing which action shall be initated in accordance with the guidelines,” the order stated.
