The Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has launched a Post-Doctoral Entrepreneurship Programme.

To be offered as part of Ojas, its medtech incubator, the programme is targeted at scientists who are completing their PhDs and keen on pursuing entrepreneurship.

Headed by biotech entrepreneur Radha Rangarajan, Ojas is partly funded by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

The programme helps scientists to work on problems such as disease detection, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, monitoring or wellness and find solutions. The hand-picked scientists will get a stipend for 12 months. There’s a provision to extend this facility for 12 more months. They are expected to set up a company to take the project forward.

“They will get a seed funding of up to ₹25 lakh. They will also get access to a network of investors to raise equity capital,” Radha Rangarajan said.

“The programme is highly structured and will allow a gradual transition from academics to entrepreneurship,” Radha Rangarajan added.

The programme is open to candidates who are likely to submit their PhD thesis in 2019 and can start work by October 1, 2019. The deadline for submitting applications is April 25, a statement from IIIT-H said.
