India becomes the seventh-worst Covid-19 affected country

India has moved two positions up in the chart of the countries recording the highest number of coronavirus cases. It now stands at seventh position. The tally has crossed 1,82,000 cases, as per the World Health Organization’s coronavirus tracker.

It also reveals that a total of 59,34,936 cases have been recorded globally with 3,67,166 deaths as of Sunday.

According to the WHO tracker, India is the seventh-most affected nation in terms of Covid-19 cases after the US, Brazil, Russia, UK, Spain, and Italy. The US is the worst-affected country with 17,16,078 cases, while India is at the seventh spot with 1,82,143 cases. Germany has 1,81,482 cases, Turkey has 1,63,103 cases and Iran has 1,48,950.

India also recorded its highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry.

India has entered the 5th phase of the lockdown. Resumption of malls, hotels, and restaurants; places of worship; schools and colleges, will take place in a phased manner over the next couple of months. Malls, hotels, restaurants, and religious places such as temples, mosques, and churches will reopen from June 8.
