India on Friday sent back two Pakistani teenage boys who were wrongly arrested here for their alleged involvement in the terrorist attack at the Uri army base.

The two boys – Faisal Hussain Awan and Ahsan Khursheed – were believed to have crossed over the border as they wanted to run away from their homes under pressure to perform well in studies, according to the Pakistani government.

“The two juvenile Pakistanis, who were arrested by India in connection with the terror attack at Uri Brigade Headquarters, are being returned to Pakistan,” an official statement by Pakistani government stated.

On Friday afternoon, these two boys crossed over to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border. They were received by the officials there. On Thursday, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held discussions to facilitate their travel.

No evidence found

These boys had crossed over to India in September during the time of Uri attack. They were released because no evidence was found of their involvement in the attack, said Gopal Baglay, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The two were apprehended by the Army and the BSF in a joint operation on September 21 on suspicion of helping the terrorists who had attacked the army camp at Uri in which 19 soldiers were killed.

Dossier to Pakistan

India had even gave a detailed report of their involvement in the attack and how they guided the four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists in a dossier to the Pakistan High Commission.

Eventually, the National Investigative Agency found that the two boys had no links with the JeM and had no role in the attacks. Thereafter, it also emerged that the terrorists who attacked the army camp at Uri were not from JeM but Laskar-e-Taiba.
