Flights from India to UK will begin on January 6 while flights from UK to India will restart on January 8, tweeted Hardeep Puri, Minister of State for Civil Aviation on Saturday. Limited flights will be allowed to and from metro cities, including Chennai.

“30 flights will operate every week. 15 by Indian and UK carriers each. This schedule is valid till January 23. Further frequency will be determined after review,” the Minister tweeted.

The tweet comes a day after the Minister took to Twitter to announce that direct flights between the two countries will resume on January 8.

The Ministry of Health said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will ensure adequate spacing between flights during testing protocol.

“The DGCA will also strictly monitor that the airlines do not allow any passenger to travel from UK to India through a transit airport of a third country, to ensure that there are no omissions in monitoring of these passengers,” said the Health Ministry.

It added  that all international travelers will be required to declare, as per existing procedure, their travel history (of past 14 days) and fill up the self-declaration form to be screened for Covid-19.

Passengers coming from UK between January 8 and January 30 will have to submit an online self-declaration form at least 72 hours before travel and carry negative RT-PCR report for the test done within 72 hours prior to the journey. “This also has to be uploaded on the online portal,” stated the Ministry.
