The three-day International Innovation Fair 2017, hosted by the Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society, begins here on Saturday, according to Chief Executive Officer V. Valli Kumari.

At a media conference here on Friday, on the eve of the three-day event, she said representatives from 30 countries would participate in the event being held in the State for the first time after bifurcation.

She said the fair would be inaugurated by Alireza Rastegar, President of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA). The event would be held at Taj Gateway hotel.

She said models from all the 30 participating countries would be on display and "it will give a great opportunity to the local companies and start-ups to access international technologies. There will be a seminar on technology transfer on Sunday in which the State IT Minister, N. Lokesh, will participate."

On the concluding day, Monday, three prizes - gold, silver and bronze - would be given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the valedictory session.

Valli Kumari said a hackathon would also be organised from 4 p,m on Friday to 6 p.m on Sunday on citizen-centric services at Sunrise incubation hub at Rushikonda.

She said a memorandum of understanding would be signed with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) by the AP Innovation Society to help the students and startups in the State.

A.S Rao, President of the Indian Innovators' Association, said that "innovation is the need of the hour, especially in manufacturing sector, and the Indian industry cannot compete in the international markets with obsolete technologies."

He said the IFIA memorial medal would be given to Y S Chowdary, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, on Monday. On the same day, the Gandhi Memorial Innovation Award will be presented to Bahrain.

Visakhapatnam district collector Pravin Kumar said the international event would give the local industry a great chance to improve its production processes.
