The Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, has presented Letters of Intent to seven shortlisted companies under the Adopt a Heritage Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.

The LoIs were presented at the closing ceremony of "Paryatan Parv" (tourism festival) on the Rajpath lawns here yesterday.

SBI Foundation, TK International Ltd, Yatra Online Pvt Ltd, Travel Corporation of India Ltd, Adventure Tour Operator Association of India, Special Holidays Travel Pvt Ltd with Rotary Club of Delhi, and NBCC were the seven companies which were shortlisted under the scheme.

The inter-ministerial oversight and vision committee members appreciated the positive response received from reputed organisations in the initial phase, wherein 57 responses have been recorded and 14 monuments have been opted through 7 expressions of interest.

After detailed scrutiny, the following stakeholders ranging from hospitality, travel and banking industries have been shortlisted for vision biding for final selection of Monument Mitras.

The Adopt a Heritage scheme was launched on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2017, by President Ram Nath Kovind. Thereafter, the Ministry of Tourism invited private and public sector companies and individuals to adopt the sites and to take up the responsibility for making heritage and tourism more sustainable through conservation and development.

This scheme is an endeavour of the Ministry of Tourism in close collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which envisages developing monuments, heritage and tourist sites across India and making them tourist friendly to enhance their tourism potential and cultural importance, in a planned and phased manner.
