Former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, will inaugurate ‘Aashray’, a foundation set up to promote social enterprises, here on Saturday.

Aashray is a techno-social business incubator for promotion of innovations, setting up of social enterprises, and scaling up innovative ventures and grassroots technologies.

The Ahmedabad-based incubator has been set up by Incube Ventures Pvt Ltd, and Saath Livelihoods, an NGO, in association with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), Ahmedabad, and Ashoka India, according to a release.

Aashray is India’s first social venture incubator recognised by the Government and would be eligible, along with its incubates, to get CSR grants and service tax exemptions.

The incubator would promote the creation of new technology and knowledge-based ventures and enterprises, provide a platform for speedy commercialisation of social and technological enterprises in its thrust areas, offer value-added jobs and services to incubates, and opportunities to interface and network with academia, industry and financial institutions.
