The Karnataka government is set to launch a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in data sciences and artificial intelligence (AI) in Bengaluru.

Addressing the CII conference on innovative procurement and supply chain, Karnataka Minister for Large & Medium Industries and IT &BT K J George said the state government is focused on transforming Karnataka’s manufacturing economy from a factor-driven one to an efficiency-driven and ultimately to an innovation-driven economy by focussing on productivity, technology, healthy enterprises and market linkages. “The state government has envisioned making Karnataka a vibrant manufacturing hub by leveraging the strengths of knowledge-based institutions and skilled human resources of the State. The government aspires to skill 1.88 crore youth by 2030,” George said.

Addressing the conference, Arvind Garg, Chairman, CII Pro-Econ 2018, said that for the success of an industry, it is necessary that the supply chain, logistics and the entire ecosystem around it is also be part of the growth process.

Close coordination

“For long, industry has looked at the supply chain as suppliers or vendors but if we have to succeed, we must look at the Japanese model of collaboration and ensure that there is strong collaboration between the industry and the entire supply chain in order to respond to market changes quickly,” he said.

“For a country like India, which has a huge population, manufacturing must take the centrestage to move forward,” Garg said.

N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII Karnataka State Council, said the Indian supply chain industry has seen a lot of developments with improved and technologically advanced infrastructure. More standardisation, integration and consolidation have been happening since past few years which are making Indian industries more organised.
