M Kodandaram, who led the Telangana-Political Joint Action Committee for over a decade, has floated a new political party — Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS).
Announcing the decision here on Monday, he said the party would strive to achieve the objectives of the Telangana movement, which sought to distribute resources equitably to the people in the State.
The party will be formally launched at a public meeting to be held in Hyderabad on April 29.
“The party will work to realise the objectives and aspirations of the people in the State, which have not been met even after four years of formation of the State. “The JAC had fought for the separation of Andhra Pradesh and has been fighting for the development of Telangana after the bifurcation. The government has chosen to ignore people’s aspirations, suppressing democratic protests,” he said.
A retired professor of Osmania University, Kodandaram has been working with civil society organisations for over four decades in the areas of civil rights.
A strong votary of Telangana even before Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao floated the party in 2001, Kodandaram organised protests on issues like displacement of people in the last four years.
As head of the JAC, he coordinated with various political parties and rallied support for the movement for the statehood for Telangana.
