The 37th edition of the Kolkata Book Fair will be inaugurated on January 26 this year. The fair would continue up to February 10.

According to the organisers, Publishers & Booksellers Guild, the country in focus at this year’s fair would be Bangladesh.

Apart from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and novelist Anisur Jjaman are expected to be present during the inauguration of the event, said Tridib Chatterjee, Secretary, Book Fair Organising Committee, after a meeting with the State Government officials at Writers’ Buildings on Monday.

Following a request by Banerjee, the organisers had decided to extend the fair by three days. The annual event was accordingly rescheduled to January 26 instead of January 29.

Literary Meet

The Kolkata Literary Meet that was introduced as part of the Kolkata Book Fair last year would take place from January 30 to February 3.

“Nobel laureates Amartya Sen and Muhammed Yunus are likely to attend the meet,” Chatterjee said.

Special transport arrangements are also being made by the organisers while the entry fee has been waived off.
