Nestle India’s plans for Maggi noodles could face fresh trouble with the Maharashtra government seeking legal advice on whether to contest the Bombay High Court’s order allowing the company to restart sales of the product.

Maharashtra’s Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Girish Bapat told BusinessLine that legal opinion has been sought and a final decision in the matter could be taken next week.

He said though some batches of products have been tested, there is a possibility that untested batches could cause health issues.

Bapat has been very vocal against lifting the ban on Maggi.

Chairman of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) Shirish Deshpande said as soon as the Bombay High Court delivered the order, the MGP studied it and wrote to the State government saying that there are enough grounds to challenge the order in the Supreme Court.

MGP is one of the oldest consumer rights organisations in Maharashtra.
