After he lost all court battles to remain Chairman of the prestigious Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), that markets Amul brand of milk products globally, Vipul Chaudhary was on Tuesday removed also as Chairman of the Mehsana Milk Union, his home base.
This was subsequent to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling which confirmed his removal as the GCMMF chief. He had failed to get any relief from the Appellate Authority, Government of Gujarat as well as the Gujarat High Court and was directed to vacate his office as Chairman, Mehsana Milk Union, sources said.
The process for Chaudhary’s removal had begun in October 2013 when 14 of 17 members of the GCMMF Board of Directors expressed no-confidence in his leadership. Chaudhary challenged it in the court. After a long court battle, the apex court dismissed his appeal on March 19, leading to the Gujarat Government issuing an order removing him from the posts under the Cooperative Societies Act in view of the alleged corruption and financial irregularities amounting to Rs 1,200 crore.
He has also been disqualified from contesting elections of any cooperative society or from holding any post in such a society for three years.
