Luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has bolstered its service network in tier II markets by inaugurating its second service facility in Coimbatore.

This facility spread across 80,000 sq ft is said to be one of the largest, built within a span of 15 months on an investment of ₹16 crore.

The facility has 26 service bays. “It is expandable to 50 bays,” said Santosh Iyer, Vice-President (Customer Services and Corporate Affairs), Mercedes Benz India.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration, Iyer told BusinessLine that this is the 31st outlet for the company in South India and the 10th in Tamil Nadu.

“Tamil Nadu is an important market for us, contributing to about 30 per cent of our total sales volume. Service differentiation has been our focus area. A robust service network and multiple customer touch points have allowed us to remain closer to the customer. Coimbatore could play a significant role in our future growth as this automobile hub has been a key engine of growth,” Iyer said.

Mercedes Benz has partnered with Sundaram Motors in strengthening its presence here. This is the eighth Mercedes Benz outlet (for Sundaram Motors) in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“We have over the last two years redefined the after-sales experience of our customers by digitalising the service process via the ‘My Mercedes, My Service’ programme. In December last, we rolled out the ‘Pit Stop Service’ drive to create service differentiation. With the use of big data and understanding of driving pattern of our customers, we have to a large extent managed to bring down the cost of ownership of the Benz car,” Iyer said.
