Anil Urs Bengaluru is not just for Karnataka; rather, the entire world is looking to it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.

Interacting with Suresh Kumar, BJP candidate for the Rajajinagar constituency in Bengaluru, he said: “Bengaluru city needs a development plan with radical changes. It also requires long-term infrastructure planning.”

Taking a question on farm distress from Shashikala Jolle, candidate from Nipani (Belagavi district), Modi said Central schemes like Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana should be popularised. Karnataka farmers have not been able to avail these due to the Congress government’s incompetency, he added.

On minimum support price (MSP) for farm produce, he said the MSP model arrived at by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath can be replicated.

Modi also suggested strengthening sandalwood cultivation in the State. “Karnataka, which is known for sandalwood, lost out when Australia took specimens from the State and started producing it there. We have to win back the lost market.”

Sunil Kumar, contesting from Karkala (Dakshina Kannada district), sought a poll mantra. Modi suggested roping in as many women workers on the field as men. “Distribute the families to be targeted between all the workers. You won’t need anything else to win elections. This is not about winning the Vidhan Sabha election, it is about winning at the booth-level,” he said.
