On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Vice-President, M Venkaiah Naidu, and Human Resources Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar, felicitated 45 teachers from across the country with the National Award (2017) for their contribution in improving the quality of school education.
The Vice-President said: “The countries of the world had recognised India as a world teacher (Vishwa Guru). In many ways, this stream of intellectual pursuits and knowledge creation has continued over the last two millennia.”
However, there are persistent challenges in providing good quality education for all children, youth and adults, he added.
Venkaiah Naidu said these awards would give an inspiration and through this teachers from different parts of the country would also get to know about new practices, techniques and methods which they can adopt.
During the event, an one minute presentation of each teacher was also showed. Prakash Javadekar said the selected teachers have been awarded entirely on the basis of their work.
Kirandeep Rathi, a teacher at Government Senior Secondary School Sihora in Ludhiana district, has been given the award for coming up with innovative techniques to teach Maths. He has designed Maths Hub, Maths Games, and Maths Library in the school. “There is a need to understand that every child is different, therefore, single method cannot be used to teach all the students,” he said.
“I focus on community mobilisation for the development of my school and have also taken steps to increase the number of girl students. I have also worked towards increasing the number of admission and reduce the dropouts,” said Karma Chomu Bhutia, a Headmistress of Pakshepjhs Junior School in Sikkim.
