As per the preliminary reports, an average 55 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm in 14 seats of Maharashtra. Polling for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections was conducted on Tuesday.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule and State BJP President Raosaheb Danve were among the main contestants in this phase. Kolhapur Lok Sabha constituency in the sugar belt recorded highest 65.76 per cent voting by 5 pm while Pune Lok Sabha constituency saw lowest turnout of 44.45 per cent.
Out of ten seats in the sugar belt of western Maharashtra, eight went to polls in this phase.
The NCP had won four out of these eight seats in the 2014 polls.
The BJP-Sena combine had proved single handed dominance in North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan region in 2014 by winning 9 of these 14 seats.
Out of the total 48 seats in the State, voting has been conducted for 31 seats while remaining 17 constituencies will go to the polls on April 29.
