Gujarat Innovation Society (GIS), an organisation dedicated to creating a sustainable knowledge-based ecosystem in Gujarat, awarded 15 innovators who have contributed to the betterment of society.

Veteran academician Dr C L Patel of Charutar Vidya Mandal, Vallabh Vidyanagar, was conferred GIS's 'Gujarat Ratna' award for his contribution in the field of education by pioneering efforts in introducing the self-finance education model at the Education Township at Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand district.

At the fourth Foundation Day celebration of GIS, innovators from across the state were given awards in four categories, besides the Gujarat Ratna. These were in the Hercules category and the Achievers category, recognition of innovators in the Trendsetters, and Innovative Approach categories to recognise student innovators.

Bharat Patel, founder Director, Bharat Biogas Energy Ltd, and Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd - AMUL, were conferred the the Hercules award for their contribution in the larger interest of the society.

Two awards were give in the Achiever category for innovation in aerospace technology and in communication through digital media. Ten awards were given in the Trendsetter category, while others were given awards for Innovative Approach.

The awards were given in the presence of Gujarat Chief Secretary, D J Pandian, and A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Space Commission and ISRO.

Speaking on the occasion Sunil Shah, Chairman, Gujarat Innovation Society, said "GIS operates with a special focus on micro, small and medium-scale industries, students, academicians, while also broadly fostering the spirit of every individual who has the passion to innovate."
