Raids carried out all over the State have led to the seizure of 16 tonnes of banned pan masala, gutkha and related substances.
The State Food Safety Commissioner had issued requisite order through notification banning sale of substances, across brands, containing nicotine and tobacco.
The order had also said that stockists would be allowed a grace period until June 15 by which they were required to move existing inventory of the notified substances out of the State.
A court directive issued on the basis of the public interest writ had authorised food safety officials and the police to confiscate stocks of these substances and liquidate them with effect from June 16.
