The 15th Finance Commission today met the representatives of the urban local bodies (ULBs) of Telangana and discussed issues, including the impact of GST implementation, their performance and related issues.
During the meeting, they held discussions over some of the key matters such as subsuming of entertainment tax and compensation to ULBs by State government, the issue of supply of free water across the State, the functioning of the special purpose vehicles (SPVs) set up by the State Government for various projects.
The meeting also focused on the issue of the State Finance Commission (SFC-I) constituted on March 16, 2015 and which is yet to submit its report.
The Finance Commission, which is touring the State, is not only meeting representatives from various sections but also visiting some of the major project sites to assess their progress.
Lakes missing
As per records, 17 lakes were not traceable while 9 lakes were fully encroached.
Seventeen functions out of 18 envisaged in the Twelfth Schedule of the Constitution have been devolved to ULBs.
The SFC-I of Telangana constituted in 2015 is expected to submit its report by January 2, 2020. State has been releasing funds currently as per the recommendations of SFC-III appointed by erstwhile unified State of Andhra Pradesh.
