A total of ₹3,349.70 crore has been released to Andhra Pradesh for early completion of the Polavaram irrigation project, which has been put on fast track, the Water Resources Ministry said here while listing out its achievements in the past three years.

“Polavaram multi-purpose project is among those (AP/Telangana) that have been put on fast track and is likely to irrigate 2.9 lakh ha and generate 960 MW of power,” the Ministry said in an official release.

Prioritised projects

A total of 45 irrigation projects have been fast-tracked. This includes 22 projects in Maharashtra, six projects in Odisha, 17 projects in Madhya Pradesh, which are likely to be completed ahead of the scheduled time. “The potential utilisation through the prioritised projects is expected to be more than 14 lakh ha during 2016-17,” the statement said.

The Ministry said it was working with a three-pronged objective of ensuring effective use of water resources, inclusiveness and sustainability.

“The flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, launched in mission mode, has been divided into 99 prioritised projects with different timelines. A dashboard has been launched for online information on the status of the project for public access,” it said.

On the Ken Betwa river linking project, the Ministry said: “All mandatory clearances and statutory clearances have been obtained from designated authorities and the project is likely to be rolled out soon.”

The Ministry also highlighted its focus on the development of the North-East, the formulation of Inter-State Water Tribunal and the proposed Dam Safety Bill.

Clean Ganga scheme

Under the Namami Gange programme approved by the Cabinet in May 2015 with a budget outlay of ₹20,000 crore “11.04 lakh Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed in villages located on Ganga and 4,076 villages have been declared open defecation free,” the Ministry said.

Ground water bill

Highlighting the developments made through the circulation of Ground Water Regulation Model Bill-2005 in the States, the statement said: “The Revised Model Bill-2007 is under consideration of NITI Aayog.”
