The AIADMK has welcomed the Budget 2014-15 proposal to allocate ₹100 crore for preparing detailed project reports for linking the rivers.

Participating in the discussions on the General Budget in the Lok Sabha, AIADMK member A Anwhar Raajhaa said inter-linking of rivers was a must for India to increase rural gross domestic product. He also called upon the Government to establish an autonomous national river authority as a constitutional body, like the Election Commission.

Raajhaa also hailed the Centre’s move to announce several Tamil Nadu specific schemes including the National Institute of Ageing at Madras Medical College in Chennai and outer harbour project in Thoothukkudi.
