Bankers’ Quotient Academy (BQA) has inked an agreement with Bharathidasan University, Trichy to offer a Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Banking and Finance.

This 12-month residential programme is designed to impart skills and instil confidence to entry level officers, BQA Chairman MV Nair told BusinessLine .

“The agreement was inked in August and we got the accreditation from the University last month” Nair said.

The two-semester programme would include job internship at sponsor bank branches and the diploma will be awarded by the University on successful completion, explained BQA’s Chief Operating Officer Mohan Bala.

The programme will be conducted at the Academy’s campus in Coimbatore.

Reverting to BQA's journey this far, Mr Nair said that since the inception of the academy in June 2013, over 4,000 officers have undergone training in various facets of banking, starting from induction programmes to leadership and functional training.

The Academy has tied up with more than 11 banks till date, opened its second campus at Noida in August to cater to the training demands for officers working in the northern and central parts of the country.

The Academy had, towards the end of last year, launched the Branch Managers training programme, Nair said and pointed out that the institute has trained around 300 managers on a pilot basis.

The need for such a programme arose because of the exponential expansion in branch network in addition to financial inclusion in the last 5-6 years, and the post elevation is ‘not purely merit-based fast track, rather need-based’ emphasising the importance of grooming such personnel.

The former Union Bank CMD further observed that there were not many takers for the branch managers’ post, which is posing a huge challenge to the management.
