The Government of India will help in upgrading 2,280 Industrial Training Institutes in Telangana, according to B Dattatreya, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Government of India.
Addressing a press conference along with N Narasimha Reddy, Minister for Labour, Government of Telangana after a review meeting with officials, Dattatreya said he would positively consider a host of proposals submitted by the State Government for support.
The proposals include financial assistance for setting up a skill development corporation at the existing ITI in Mallepally and providing own premises/buildings for ESI offices in the State. “My focus as a minister would be mainly on improving the conditions of unorganised labour which account for 93 per cent of the workforce in the country and also ensuring the welfare of women workers,” Dattatreya said.
Efforts were on to provide smart cards to labour in the unorganised sector to integrate benefits such as health and insurance, he added.
“Social security will be assured to all workers through introduction of new schemes, which are being worked out,” the minister said.
