Cherma’s, the Hyderabad-based retail chain of readymade garments, has made inroads into the coastal AP market as well and it has plans to set up more showrooms in coastal towns in future, according to the company director Kaizad Pestonji.

At a press meet here on Friday, on the occasion of completing five years in the city, he said Cherma’s has at present five showrooms in Hyderabad and one apiece in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. The showrooms in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada were opened in 2007 and both of them have completed five years.

“On the occasion, we are conducting 45 daily draws from December 1 in both the cities and there will be three festival bumper draws and one mega draw. The prizes include Maruti new Alto car with 1,000 litres of free petrol, 200 grams of gold, 4 kg of silver, television sets, branded wrist watches and Cherma's gift coupons,’’ he said.

He said the company was sourcing its supplies from 600 suppliers across the country and it had set up a manufacturing unit in Hyderabad.

He said Cherma's had bought the unit from Aravind Mills in 2003 and expanded its capacity to 1.3 lakh pieces per day. More than a thousand workers were employed in the unit.

“However, our focus is not on manufacturing, but retailing,’’ he said and added that in 2014 one more showroom may be added in Hyderabad and then the company would consider opening more showrooms in the coastal districts.

He said the company was also exporting garments to the US and the UK and exports amounted to Rs 30 crore of a total sales turnover of Rs 200 crore. He said footwear was also being sold in Cherma’s showrooms.
