The Kolkata-headquartered Globsyn Skill Development Ltd (GSDL) aims to open 100 ‘skill for India’ labs over the next four years.
GSDL is joint-venture between National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Globsyn Group.
Skill development courses
As part of its aim to train nearly 3.5 lakh underprivileged youth in skill development courses in 10 years, Globsyn Skill will set up labs in college and university premises to offer skill development courses simultaneously with academic programmes.
This is primarily aimed at creating more avenues for employment. According to Mr Rahul Dasgupta, Director of Globsyn Skill, proposals have been sent to 60 universities in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Assam for opening such labs.
The State Government of Mizoram is also keen to adopt such a model, he added. The company also plans to have majority of the tie-ups with State-run colleges.
Nearly 10,000 youth are expected to be trained in short-term vocational courses by end-2012.
The courses are in areas such as ITeS, mobile repairing, security services, automobile courses, hospitality and retail.
IT sector
The company started off with software courses for non-IT students keen to work in the IT sector.
