In a significant move to check pollution from plastic and flex, Kerala government today decided to bring in a law to “ban and restrict” their use.
The Government directed the authorities concerned to remove all unauthorised flex board hoardings across the state with immediate effect. Those put up with permission of local civic bodies would be allowed to remain till their expiry period.
“The cabinet decided to bring in a law to ban and restrict use of flex and plastic in the state,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after a Cabinet meeting here.
“We will start by removing flexboards with my pictures and that of other Ministers,” he said, adding that a a comprehensive cleanliness drive programme would be launched from Gandhi Jayanti tomorrow.
Rubber modified bitumen
In a bid to help rubber growers who are facing a crisis due to fall in prices of natural rubber, the Cabinet agreed in principle to use rubber modified bitumen for road construction by the Public Works Department (PWD).
Chandy said Kochi Refinery has been asked to produce more rubber modified bitumen for PWD.
