Fishermen’s cooperative Matsyafed has been entrusted the task of distributing kerosene oil to beneficiaries for fishing purposes. Fisheries Minister K. Babu said that an in-principle decision to this effect has been approved by the State Cabinet. Department of civil supplies makes available the needed stock. It has been allocated stock of 2,532 kilo litres every month for distribution to fish workers.
Currently, the distribution is carried out by oil company dealers on the basis of specific permits. But fish workers have been made to part with a tidy sum every time they proceeded to lift stock from these dealers. Hence the changeover to Matsyafed, Babu said.
