In a bid to prevent illegal hoarding and black-marketing of fertilisers in Odisha, a state-wide verification has been launched by Vigilance sleuths to foil any attempt to create an artificial crisis during the sowing season.

Sleuths of the anti-corruption wing conducted the verification at around 40 locations under five different divisions of the state Vigilance since yesterday, official sources said today.

In Bhubaneswar division, during the verification at different places including Nayagarh, Khurda, Gop and Bhubaneswar, shortage of 7073 bags and excess of 1271 bags of fertiliser of different varieties have been found, they said.

Godowns of stockists at Jaleswar and Balasore area were verified by Balasore Vigilance Division where excess of 385 bags and shortage of 32 bags of fertiliser of different brands have been detected.

Similarly, verification of different fertiliser agencies at Boudh, Ganjam and Berhampur was undertaken by the Berhampur Vigilance Division. An excess of 70 bags and shortage of 1,041 bags of fertilizer have been detected.

Business premises of different wholesalers/retailers at Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Angul were verified by Vigilance wing’s Cuttack Division.

During verification, 4,547 bags of fertiliser of different varieties were found shortage while 167 bags of fertilizer of different varieties were found excess, they said.

Business premises of different fertiliser traders at Sambalpur were verified by Sambalpur Division and shortage of 5,255 bags and excess of 70 bags of different varieties of fertilizer were detected.

Verification is also being conducted at different business premises of wholesaler/retailer by the Koraput Vigilance Division, they said.
