The Palakkad division of Southern Railways opened its 11 PRS (passenger reservation system) under the MP’s quota in Mangalore on Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the PRS, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP of Dakshina Kannada district, said that this will help de-congest rush at the booking centre at the railway station.
Set up in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore in the heart of the city, the location is close to the terminal bus station also.
AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner of the district, said that steps will be taken to hand over the PRS counter to either physically-challenged association or to the government employees’ association for manning it.
Mohan Menon, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad, said that Mangalore PRS counter is the first in Karnataka under the Palakkad division. The remaining 10 PRS counters of the Palakkad division are located in Kerala.
